Penyedia layanan internet populer, mulai dari Google hingga Wikipedia, menolak rancangan undang-undang anti-pembajakan online di AS. Undang-undang yang dimaksud ada dua, Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) dan Protect IP Act (PIPA). Keduanya masih dalam proses legislasi. Google's efforts to offer a more secure search to users has had what seems to be an unintended positive side effect, it's killed many of the BlackHat SEO scripts used to game the system and spread malicious files such as Rogue anti-Virus. Salah satu bantuan yang datang adalah dari salah satu pendiri Google, Sergey Brin. Sergey Brin dan istrinya, Anne Wojcicki, memiliki sebuah yayasan yang diberi nama The Brin Wojcicki Foundation.
